Gwynedd Mercy University Expands Academic Offerings to Meet Workforce Needs

Gwynedd Mercy University (GMercyU) is broadening its academic portfolio with the introduction of new academic programs that reflect changing workforce demands, while building on the University's long-standing strengths in professional preparation and values-based education.

The University also will re-launch its RN-to-BSN program to meet the need for more bachelor-prepared nurses in the Commonwealth and beyond in January 2027.

The additions represent one of the University's most significant academic expansions in recent years, introducing new opportunities at the graduate, undergraduate, and certificate levels while broadening GMercyU's presence in areas where technology is reshaping industries and organizations.

"Universities have a responsibility to anticipate where opportunities are emerging and prepare students accordingly," said Deanne H. D'Emilio, JD, President of Gwynedd Mercy University. "These new programs broaden what students can study at GMercyU while reinforcing the values and professional focus that define a Mercy education."

The Doctor of Education (EdD) in Organizational & Nonprofit Leadership, AI and Innovation examines how leaders can integrate innovation and emerging technologies into organizational strategy and decision-making, and the Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence include a focus on cybersecurity, machine-based AI, and human-based AI.

Other additions build on GMercyU's interdisciplinary approach to education.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry combines music, media production, digital communications and business, and the Forensic Science minor draws on coursework from biology, criminal justice, psychology and computer information science. The Trauma-Informed Care Certificate focuses on understanding trauma and applying trauma-informed practices across professional settings, and will help students across many disciplines meet the needs of students, patients, and other constituents.

The programs support GMercyU's commitment to ensuring its academic portfolio remains relevant, responsive and connected to the needs of students, employers and communities. The expansion comes as GMercyU continues to experience strong student demand, with three consecutive years of growth in new campus undergraduate students, and the highest number of first-year applications in more than 20 years for fall 2026.

The growth reflects increasing interest in academic programs that align with workforce needs and career opportunities.
