CANCELED: Maranatha Band Concert
Due to Hurricane Irma, the band was unable to catch a flight to the U.S. and unfortunately had to cancel the concert at GMercyU.
Come and enjoy the sounds of the Dominican Republic! The Maranatha Band, touring the U.S. from its base in La Romana, will hold a concert in JBA. The public is invited to attend. The cost is $5, or $3 with a student ID.
Faculty and students from the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions met the members of the band during the Nursing Mission Trips, when they were working as translators for the GMercyU group. The band is comprised of members of the La Maranatha Church.
The Church is home to Haitians working in the sugar cane fields, many of whom do not have reliable access to medical care. GMercyU's students work with the Good Samaritan Hospital and Maranatha Church, providing much-needed care for the community. Along with some faculty members, the students provide health care assessments and teat acute illnesses. Health promotion is provided through health education, dental hygiene kits, and vitamins. This year’s focus will be on providing school supplies for their education.
The fee for the mission trip is about $2,000 per student, much of which is fundraised.
