Janis Chakars, PhD

Janis Chakars earned his PhD at Indiana University. Before coming to GMercyU, he taught at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and East Siberian State Technological University. His professional experience ranges from publicity work in New York to editorial work in Mongolia and journalism at numerous points in between. He is currently a contributor at WHYY’s NewsWorks.org in Philadelphia and writes freelance for other publications. His research has been published in American Journalism, Journalism History, the Central European Journal of Communication, the International Journal of Children’s Literature and elsewhere. He is the vice president for conferences of the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies. He teaches communication  courses at GMercyU.

Fun fact: There is a band named after him in Latvia.
