GMercyU Commencement 2016 Tender Courage Award

Gwynedd Mercy University honored alumna and staff member Stephanie Alderfer with the 2016 Tender Courage Award. The award is given each year at Commencement to those whose accomplishments exemplify the ideals of Mercy, and whose work and lives reflect the mission and values of the University.

Stephanie knows what it takes to be a successful student and a Distinctive Mercy Graduate. She earned her associate and bachelor’s degrees in business administration from GMercyU in 1991 and 1996, and her Master of Teaching degree from the University in 2004.

Stephanie pours her heart and soul into helping students achieve their own successes through her work in the Academic Resource Center. It is notable that Stephanie worked her way from tutor to Assistant Director of this critical student service. Her ability to put students at ease from when they come nervously to take their freshman placement tests, to when they are preparing for their all-important licensure or other professional tests makes Stephanie the best person for her position. All feel welcome and are encouraged to do their very best. Colleagues also experience this ease with Stephanie and appreciate her sense of humor as well as her humility, competence and commitment to excellence whether in the Academic Resource Center or serving on committees or just having a quick chat between meetings.
