GMercyU Earns National Recognition as College of Distinction
As a result of its innovative application of high-impact educational practices, Gwynedd Mercy University earned national recognition as a College of Distinction. The University is listed as a College of Distinction, a Catholic College of Distinction and a Pennsylvania College of Distinction.
To earn this recognition, schools must demonstrate results across the Four Distinctions—Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. High school counselors and educators make nominations, and each school is evaluated on key indicators including student engagement, student empowerment, and curricular innovation. Colleges that have distinguished themselves in each of the Four Distinctions and that have demonstrated dedication to enriching student outcomes through innovative learning opportunities are then invited to join Colleges of Distinction.
GMercyU students have opportunities to engage with their peers and professors in the traditional classroom setting, but also have opportunities to work with professors on research, network with alumni, and come together at events on campus.
GMercyU’s 11:1 student-faculty ratio allows for a deeper connection with professors who know your name, what your interests are, and what your goals are for the future. Our dedicated faculty come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and some have had fulfilling careers outside of academia before bringing their talents to the classroom.
With 19 Division III athletic teams, 24 clubs and organizations and 4 residence halls on GMercyU’s 160-acre campus, students are never short on available activities. And with the Griffin Loop operating every weekend and Philadelphia just 30 minutes away, there’s always something to do nearby.
Our surveys have showed that 88 percent of 2014-15 graduates are employed or going to graduate school. We’ve had students go to medical school; start their own business; join local, state and national police forces; and work for top accounting firms in the area. Our Distinctive Mercy Graduates are making a difference in their chosen careers and in the lives of those they serve.
The annual process to select the nation’s Colleges of Distinction also includes a review of each institution’s First- Year Experience, as well as its general education program, strategic plan, and alumni success and satisfaction measures.
“Colleges of Distinction is more than an annual ranking of colleges and universities. We only include colleges that offer every student a holistic and valuable experience,” said Tyson Schritter, executive editor for Colleges of Distinction. “The Colleges of Distinction have earned solid reputations for serving their students and nurturing success. Like GMercyU, our member schools provide the affirming undergraduate experience every student deserves.”
