GMercyU Alumna Receives IBX Celebrate Caring Sunshine Award

Gwynedd Mercy University alumna Sarah Lombardi Bruno, BSN, RN, CPN ’14 ’16 was featured on 6ABC News after receiving the Independence Blue Cross Celebrate Caring Sunshine Award, which honors nurses for exceptional dedication to their patients and communities.

Sarah, a pediatric nurse at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), was selected from hundreds of nominations submitted by coworkers, patients, family members, and friends. The annual award celebrates nurses who make a meaningful difference through their commitment to caring for others

Sarah's nomination highlighted efforts to support children and families during challenging times. Sarah’s best friend and fellow GMercyU alumna Katie Moll nominated Sarah and noted that at St. Christopher's Hospital, Sarah established a trauma clothing closet for children entering foster care from the hospital.

"I couldn't stand knowing they were going to a new stranger's house with nothing," Sarah told 6ABC.

The Sunshine Award is presented annually through Independence Blue Cross' Celebrate Caring campaign and is named in honor of the late Paula Sunshine, former senior vice president and chief marketing executive at Independence Blue Cross. The program recognizes nurses across the region whose acts of kindness and service leave a lasting impact on the lives of patients and families.

GMercyU nurses are known for having exceptional clinical skills and Mercy values that set them apart as compassionate caregivers, patient advocates, and nursing leaders. Sarah exemplifies what it means to be a “Mercy Nurse.”
