GMercyU to Offer a New Music Industry Major
Gwynedd Mercy University is expanding its academic offerings with the launch of a new Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry, an interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students for careers in one of the nation's fastest-evolving industries.
The program combines coursework in music, business, digital communications, marketing, and media production to equip students with the skills needed to succeed in today's entertainment landscape. Students will learn how music is created, marketed, distributed, and monetized while gaining hands-on experience through multimedia projects and a required internship.
"The music industry is evolving rapidly, creating demand for professionals who understand creativity, business strategy, data, and marketing," Carol Evans, MMus, Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Music Industry program said. "Whether students aspire to manage artists, launch a record label, run festivals, work in streaming, or build their own music ventures, this program provides the skills, experience, and industry connections to make it happen."
The new degree reflects the strength of both the regional and national music economy. Philadelphia's music industry generates an estimated $6.1 billion in economic impact and supports more than 31,000 jobs, while Pennsylvania ranks as the nation's fifth-largest music economy. Nationally, the recorded music industry continues to experience significant growth, driven in part by streaming and digital subscription services.
Students can apply to the program beginning in August for Fall 2027 enrollment.
