Dr. Luquet Receives Distinguished Faculty Award for Scholarship

Wade Luquet, MSW, PhD, Professor of Social Work, was awarded the 2026 Distinguished Faculty Award for Scholarship.
Dr. Luquet is a nationally recognized scholar, educator, and clinician whose work has significantly contributed to social work education, couples therapy, and the history of social work. He currently serves as Past-President of the Pennsylvania Association of Social Work Education (2022–2025) and has dedicated more than four decades to advancing scholarship, teaching, and professional practice.
Dr. Luquet earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Marriage and Family Studies from The Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio, where his dissertation examined the evolution of marriage. He received his Master of Social Work (MSW) from the Tulane University School of Social Work, specializing in Families, Children, and Adults, and completed his Bachelor of Science in Sociology/Social Work at Louisiana College. He also completed advanced post-master’s clinical training in family therapy at the University of Pennsylvania/Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic.
Dr. Luquet's publications have shaped both theory and practice in social work and couple and family therapy. He is the author or editor of three books, including Short-Term Couples Therapy: The Imago Model in Action and Healing in the Relational Paradigm: The Imago Relationship Therapy Casebook. His forthcoming book, Unveiling the Unknown: An Inclusive History of Social Work (Oxford University Press), reflects his ongoing commitment to expanding the historical narrative of the profession. In addition, he has authored approximately 10 book chapters addressing theoretical, clinical, and educational issues in couples therapy and social work.
His scholarly productivity also includes more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, published in leading journals such as Journal of Social Work Education, Research on Social Work Practice, Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare, American Journal of Family Therapy, and Advances in Social Work. His research spans diverse topics, including social work education policy, transgender rights and policy, couples therapy outcomes, social work history, and curriculum development. His work has advanced evidence-based practice, strengthened social work education, and broadened inclusion in professional scholarship.
At GMercyU, he has served as Professor, Associate Professor, and Program Director of the BSW Program, leading accreditation efforts and curriculum development.
Dr. Luquet’s professional contributions extend beyond the classroom. He has served on numerous editorial boards and review panels, contributed to professional organizations, and delivered presentations at regional, national, and international conferences. His longstanding clinical practice in Pennsylvania, spanning nearly four decades, further informs his scholarship and teaching with real-world insight and applied expertise.
In recognition of his excellence in teaching and scholarship, Dr. Luquet received the 2020 Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Association of Social Work Educator of the Year Award and the 2013 Imago Relationships International Validation Award. These honors reflect his sustained commitment to advancing knowledge, supporting students, and strengthening the profession of social work.
