Nursing Licensure Admission Requirements

Find admission requirements for our ABSN, WBSN, DEMSN, and traditional BSN programs below.


Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) and Part-Time / Weekend Bachelor of Science in Nursing (WBSN)

These are second-degree undergraduate programs. To apply for either, you must hold a bachelor’s degree in another field. We will consider you for admission if you:

  • Submit official transcripts from all previously attended post-secondary institutions, including unofficial High School transcript
  • Earned a bachelor’s degree at a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Submit a personal statement
  • Demonstrate evidence of successful completion of prerequisite course requirements with a “C+” or better in science courses, including Nutrition; all prerequisite courses must be successfully completed prior to starting the programs; you do not need to have your prerequisites completed before you apply, but the majority should be completed, at least four science prerequisite courses, before an admissions decision can be made.
  • Have completed all science prerequisite courses, including Nutrition within the last seven years; Statistics and Developmental Psychology must be completed within the last 10 years, with a passing grade.

Once you are admitted to the program, you will need to:

  • Pass a criminal background and child abuse records check
  • Undergo a drug screening and FBI fingerprinting
  • Provide a certificate of health from a family physician or nurse practitioner that includes immunization information
  • Obtain a yearly flu vaccination, COVID vaccination and booster, and PPD screening
  • Provide proof of CPR certification, liability insurance, and personal health insurance

Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (DEMSN)

To apply to the Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (DEMSN) program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • GPA requirements, effective Fall 2025:
    • A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale).
    • A grade of “B-” or better is required in all prerequisite courses.
  • Two satisfactory letters of recommendation that can be from the following sources:
    • An academic professional
    • A healthcare provider with whom the student has worked or volunteered
    • A current supervisor
  • Resume or CV
  • Essay (750 words or fewer) that addresses your motivation to pursue the profession of nursing and why you have chosen the MSN.
    • You can also describe prior work or volunteer experience in healthcare or a time in your current career when you demonstrated team leadership.
  • In-person or virtual interview

Once you are admitted to the program, you will need to:

  • Pass a criminal background and child abuse record check

  • Obtain a yearly flu vaccination,COVID vaccination, and PPD screening

Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

If you don't hold a bachelor's degree, you may apply to our four-year or three-year BSN degree, with a traditional undergraduate college experience.
