If you’ve already earned college-level credits at other accredited institutions, you can transfer them to Gwynedd Mercy University. All you need to do is submit your transcript and a course description to the Registrar, who will determine whether the course counts towards the credits required for graduation. GMercyU’s middle level education degree will help you make a real difference in the lives of today’s students. Through access to state-of-the-art classrooms and guidance from qualified faculty, you will prepare to teach students how to achieve academic success during a critical time in their educations – grades 4 through 8. This program focuses on middle level education with a math/science concentration and offers a path to teacher certification.
Upon completion of this program and the passing of the required Pennsylvania Department of Education tests, you will be eligible to apply for Grades 4-8 certification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Since today’s classrooms include students with many different learning styles and abilities, it’s essential to be prepared to effectively support all of your students, including those with special education needs. Completing a dual major in Middle Level Education and Special Education will significantly enhance the value of your degree.
Upon completion of this program and the passing of the required Pennsylvania Department of Education tests, you will be eligible to apply for Middle Level (Grades 4-8) Math/Science certification and Special Education (PreK-8) certification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and then teach in a public, private or charter school.

Dr. Heather Pfleger, EdD
Heather Pfleger is Professor and Dean of the School of Business and Education at Gwynedd Mercy University, a position she has held since the fall of 2011. Prior to her career in higher education, Dr. Pfleger worked in the banking industry as an economist.
