Earn your bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science from Gwynedd Mercy University

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Medical Laboratory Science

Turn Your Love of Science into an In-Demand Career

As a medical laboratory scientist, you’ll identify sources of disease and determine the validity of data that allows physicians to make their patient diagnosis. Whether it’s analyzing blood and tissue samples, matching blood types, looking for cellular abnormalities, or identifying parasites and bacteria, GMercyU’s BS in medical laboratory science degree program will help you make a difference in people’s lives through problem-solving in a clinical lab.

The GMercyU Difference

If you’re passionate about science, this program will offer you exciting learning experiences where you can explore specialized areas, such as cytology (working with DNA & RNA), immunology, biotechnology and applied molecular technology. You’ll have access to the latest biomedical instruments and computer programs as you learn how to conduct and evaluate scientific tests on bodily fluids and tissues.

You can further increase your employability by graduating with a bachelor’s degree and the preparation you need to gain certification as a medical laboratory scientist (MLS) by passing the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) boards. Our 3+1 program includes three years on Gwynedd Mercy University’s campus completing required general education and science courses, and one year of hands-on and classroom instruction at an affiliate program as you prepare to pass the ASCP boards.

Other benefits include:

  • Senior year off-campus can be spent in the respected medical technology programs for students who apply and are accepted. These include:
    • Pennsylvania Hospital’s School of Medical Technology
    • St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children’s School of Medical Technology
    • Reading Hospital School of Laboratory Science
    • If accepted, you also have the option of transferring to Thomas Jefferson University in your junior or senior year to complete your bioscience degree.
  • Personalized learning experience with our low classroom student-faculty ratio
  • All courses taught by experienced faculty members (no teaching assistants at GMercyU!)
  • 2 Affiliations with leading area MLS programs
  • Obtain extra support and advisement from the medical laboratory science program’s designated Campus Coordinator
  • Access to clinical training at an affiliate program while still participating in classes, receiving credit towards a bachelor’s degree, and maintaining eligibility for federal financial aid through GMercyU

Undergraduate Minors

Increase the value of your degree by adding an undergraduate minor. GMercyU offers a wide variety of minors so you can choose the one that best meets your personal and professional goals.
