Assistant Professor, Health Information Management

Professor Christine Staropoli serves as assistant professor and program director for the Health Information Management (HIM) program and has been a faculty member since 1999. She also serves on Gwynedd Mercy University's HIM Program Advisory Board as a committee chair, is a Mission and Values Committee Member and participates in the annual Wellness Fair. She earned her associate degree in health information technology, bachelor’s degree in health information administration and master’s of science degree in education from GMercyU. She teaches a variety of courses in the HIM curriculum, including medical terminology, performance/quality improvement in health care and special topic courses on alternative healing modalities.

Prior to teaching at her alma mater, Professor Staropoli was employed in the acute care setting as an inpatient and outpatient coder/abstractor, quality improvement coordinator, chart completion manager and joint commission accreditation in the hospital setting. She has presented locally and nationally on HIM topics and the profession. Professor Staropoli is an active member in Pennsylvania’s local and state health information management associations and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). She is a member of Alpha Eta Honors Society (the international honor society in Allied Health), Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Alpha Chapter (the international honor society in education) and Alpha Sigma Lambda (the national honor society for adult returning students). Her areas of expertise are health information administration, certified coding, book reviews and editing for certified coding books.
