Andrea Hollingsworth, PhD, RN, is the dean of the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions at Gwynedd Mercy University, where she also serves as a professor. With more than 40 years of experience as a nurse and an educator, Dr. Hollingsworth is a highly regarded expert in the evolving field of nursing. She is an award-winning industry leader, researcher and widely-published author who is at the forefront of the new demands on the profession resulting from the changing healthcare industry. Dr. Hollingsworth spearheaded the creation of four-year and accelerated BSN degree programs at GMercyU, with coursework tailored to the future of healthcare — thus continuing the school’s reputation as a trailblazer in nursing education. 

Prior to joining Gwynedd Mercy University, Dr. Hollingsworth served as a faculty member at the nursing schools of several area higher education institutions, including Villanova University, where she was also the director of the undergraduate program for 10 years; the University of Pennsylvania; and Holy Family College. She began her career as a nurse caring for mothers and infants across a variety of roles at local hospitals, including Chester County Hospital, Frankford Hospital and Hahnemann University Hospital.

She currently serves on the board of directors at Nazareth Hospital and is the former chair of the Coalition for Advancement of Nursing Education for the Pennsylvania State Nurses’ Association of the American Nurses’ Association. Dr. Hollingsworth earned her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where she also received her master of science in nursing degree. She received her bachelor of science in nursing degree from Villanova University.
