Financial Aid at Gwynedd Mercy University

Gwynedd Mercy University’s financial aid program is designed to provide financial assistance to qualified students whose resources are inadequate to meet the costs of attendance at the university.  The Student Financial Aid Office endeavors to assist as many students as possible using GMercyU funds, as well as federal, state and other funds available.

Approximately 90% of the full-time student body at the university receives financial aid administered by Gwynedd Mercy University.

Financial Aid Procedures

New and Transfer Undergraduate Students

  1. Complete the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Our priority deadline is March 15th, 2014.  The FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov, or you can obtain a paper copy by calling 1-800-4FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

  2. Complete and submit the 2014-2015 New Student Aid Application.  This document will be enclosed in your financial aid award packet and can be accessed on our Forms and Documents page.

  3. Complete and submit a copy of the FERPA Consent Form to give our office permission to speak with specific people regarding your financial aid.  This document will be enclosed in your financial aid award packet, and can be accessed on our Forms and Documents page.

  4. Please take the time to thoroughly review your financial aid award letter as well as the 2014-2015 Financial Aid Terms and Conditions.  Sign a copy of the award letter to accept your awards and then submit it to our office.  Keep the second copy for your records.

  5. If you have accepted Federal Direct Loans as a part of your 2014-2015 financial aid award, you will need to complete two additional documents before the loans can be disbursed.  These documents should both be completed electronically at www.studentloans.gov:

    1. Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling

    2. Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note

  6. If you have been selected to undergo the federal verification process, you will need to submit additional tax documentation.  These documents should be requested, completed and submitted in a timely fashion.  These documents include, but are not limited to the following:

    1. 2013 Student IRS Tax Return Transcript (request at www.irs.gov)

    2. 2013 Parent IRS Tax Return Transcript (request at www.irs.gov)

    3. 2014-2015 Verification Worksheet (can be accessed on our Forms and Documents page)

Returning Undergraduate Students

  1. Complete the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  We encourage all students to submit the FAFSA well before May 1st.  The FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov, or you can obtain a paper copy by calling 1-800-4FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

  2. Complete and submit the 2014-2015 Returning Student Aid Application.  This document can be accessed on our Forms and Documents page.

  3. Complete and submit a copy of the FERPA Consent Form to give our office permission to speak with specific people regarding your financial aid.  This document will be enclosed in your financial aid award packet, and can be accessed on our Forms and Documents page.

  4. Please take the time to thoroughly review your financial aid award letter as well as the 2014-2015 Financial Aid Terms and Conditions.  Be sure to notify our office of any necessary adjustments to your financial aid award in writing.
