New Students Participate in Service Day

Gwynedd Mercy University's Orientation Weekend continued on Friday with freshmen and transfer students participating in service around the area. Faculty, staff and GMercyU alumni also took part in the various projects, which included making food for Cranaleith Spiritual Center and cleaning up the Camp Woods Preserve with the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association.

President Deanne D'Emilio joined students on campus making blankets for Project Linus which provides blankets to children in need across the country. The Montgomery County Chapter has donated more than 48,000 blankets since 2002. Other service sites included Belfry Bargains, Care and Share Shoppes, Peaceful Living, and Manna on Main Street.

"It's a nice way to introduce students new to GMercyU the importance service has on our campus and community. The day serves as a nice break from Move-In Day and before the start of classes," Campus Minister for Community Service Lauren DuCharme said.

Orientation weekend continues with a block party on campus Friday evening and a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure on Saturday.
