Gwynedd Mercy University Campuses to Remain Closed Until May 11

Gwynedd Mercy University announced that its campuses will remain closed until May 11 to help prevent the potential spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). On-campus classes will continue in an online format for the remainder of the spring semester. Online programs will continue as scheduled.

"The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and all persons affiliated with our University continue to be of utmost importance," said University president Deanne H. D'Emilio, JD. "Based on the best available information, we believe this step is in the best interest of all concerned."

The University's Residence Halls will remain closed through May 11, and all University-sponsored travel will be suspended through June 1. The University plans to re-open its campuses on May 11 in time for the start of the summer semester.

"We know how important Commencement is to our soon-to-be graduates and their families, and our goal is to postpone Commencement to a time when we can hold an in-person ceremony that allows graduates, their families and the entire University community to celebrate this momentous occasion together," said D'Emilio in a video message to all students, faculty and staff today. "Given the fluidity of the situation, we do not have a new date yet, but will provide more information as it becomes available," she added.

Many of the University's employees will continue to work from home to ensure current and prospective students and other University stakeholders can access the services and support they need. However, the extended closure of campus may result in a delay in some services.

"Throughout this time of uncertainty, one thing that has remained constant from the very beginning is the demonstration of Mercy from the entire Gwynedd Mercy University community," said D'Emilio in her video message. "None of this has been easy, but the response of our community has been nothing short of inspirational."

The University will continue to monitor the situation carefully, and keep the campus community updated via the University portal and website.
