Erin Huggard Receives Outstanding Student Leadership Award
The Outstanding Student Leadership Award is presented to a Gwynedd Mercy University senior who has provided outstanding leadership and service to the University and fellow students over several years in both non-elected and elected positions in a variety of co-curricular activities.

Erin Huggard has exemplified leadership through her dedication, initiative, and meaningful impact on campus life throughout her time at GMercyU. As President of the Student Activities Committee, she helped foster community by organizing engaging events. She also served as President of Beyond the Books, hosting activities focused on literature and art. As Vice President of the Residence Hall Association, Erin advocated for residents and built community through thoughtful programming. As an Orientation Leader, she offered new Griffins a warm welcome to campus, helping them adjust to college life.

Erin’s leadership extended to several other organizations. As Vice President of Best Buddies, she organized inclusive events for individuals with disabilities, and as Vice President of the Social Work and Psychology Club, she promoted mindfulness and wellbeing. She also represented the Dance Team in Student Government and was a member of the Student Government Association and Black Student Union throughout her time at GMercyU. To support her work as a leader, Erin completed a “Weaving Equity into Leadership” Certificate.

Beyond her leadership roles, Erin helped promote campus events in the Office of Student Engagement and welcomed prospective new families to campus as a Griffin Ambassador. She also served as a peer mentor with GMercyU’s Integrated Studies program, supporting students with intellectual disabilities and earned the George Nahodil Excellence in Peer Mentorship Award for her efforts.

During her senior year, she interned with the Integrated Studies department, where she helped students choose their schedules and manage their time, and created events to support their academic and social goals, and independent living skills. Erin also helped mentor the program’s peer mentors who support students in Integrated Studies.

Inspired by her Alternative Spring Break trip to Baltimore in 2023, Erin helped launch the now annual Gwynedd Gala, a spring ball for students that also raises money for charity. Her experience with the Young Mercy Leadership Pilgrimage in Ireland helped Erin connect with the legacy of Catherine McAuley and gain an understanding of what Mercy truly meant to her.

Erin has been on the Dean’s List since 2024 and was inducted into Phi Alpha, the social workers’ honor society; Sigma Phi Sigma, the honors society for service; and the Tri Alpha Honor Society, for first-generation students.

She plans to pursue her Master of Social Work at La Salle University.
