GMercyU Offers New Accounting Minor

This fall, Gwynedd Mercy University’s College of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies launched a new Accounting minor, which covers topics such as auditing, taxation, and financial reporting. It enables students to add marketable business skills to their resumes while pursuing a major other than Accounting.

“The new Accounting minor is designed to benefit students across all disciplines,” said Assistant Professor Luigi Corrado, Jr., CPA, MT.

“A working knowledge of accounting and taxation provides valuable insight into how organizations operate, make decisions, and measure performance. For students in non-business fields, such as nursing, this background can be especially useful for those considering private practice or other entrepreneurial ventures.”

The minor includes a core set of accounting courses complemented by electives that align with individual career goals. Elective options include Investment and Business Tax, and Auditing, among others.

Students interested in improving their own financial literacy may also choose Personal Taxes, an elective designed to help them navigate personal financial decisions and understand the impact of taxation, Corrado explained.

“At Gwynedd Mercy University, we are always refining our academic offerings to align with evolving market needs and the skills employers are seeking,” said Melissa Dennis, DBA, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Undergraduate Business Department. “The new Accounting minor reflects our commitment to preparing students across disciplines with the knowledge that strengthens their career readiness and professional versatility.”

Students in any major – from GMercyU’s business-related programs to Criminal Justice, Nursing, Computer Information Science, Education, and more – can complete the minor.

Interested students should speak with their advisors.
