GMercyU Community Holds Annual Thanksgiving Collection

The Gwynedd Mercy University community donated Thanksgiving baskets to families served by Mercy Neighborhood Ministries and the Gesu School Outreach Program in North Philadelphia.

GMercyU's neighbors Gwynedd Mercy Academy also took part in the collection, which included all of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal and will benefit more than 80 families. The baskets were delivered by Campus Ministry and Sigma Phi Sigma on Monday afternoon.

The Gesu School serves some of the poorest ZIP codes in the Philadelphia region, and one out of three families has an income below the Federal Poverty Level. The school identified families in need of a little extra help this holiday season, and Campus Ministry matched those families with a participating department on campus.

Prior to closing for the holiday, faculty, staff and students gathered at the University's annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service to bless the food baskets. President Deanne H. D'Emilio, JD presented remarks of reflection, which you can read here.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone on campus who contributed to the baskets and their safe delivery. Happy Thanksgiving!
