GMercyU's New President Arrives on Campus

Deanne Horner D'Emilio, JD began her tenure as Gwynedd Mercy University's sixth president today. She also will serve as Professor of Management in the School of Business and Education.

"Gwynedd Mercy University has a longstanding record of educating students in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy," President D'Emilio said. "I am excited to begin my tenure as the University's sixth President, and I welcome the opportunity to work collaboratively with members of the GMercyU community as we prepare the next generation of Distinctive Mercy Graduates."

President D'Emilio is no stranger to Mercy-sponsored higher education. Most recently, she served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, Pa., and she spent 15 years in faculty and administrative roles at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Pa. prior to that.

She earned numerous outstanding teaching and advising awards, and has presented to the Association of American Colleges and Universities about the restructuring of the general education curriculum at Carlow. President D'Emilio, who holds a master's degree Higher Education and Student Affairs from Bowling Green State University and a Juris Doctor from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law, also served as an Arbitrator for the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County.

President D'Emilio, who received the unanimous approval of GMercyU's Board of Trustees, succeeds Kathleen Owens, PhD, who stepped down on July 31, 2017 after serving as the University's President for the past 15 years.
