Clesson Higashi, PhD, joined the Biology Program at Gwynedd Mercy University in 2024 as an Assistant Professor of Biology.
Dr. Higashi earned his BS in Plant and Environmental Biotechnology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he also earned his Master's in Entomology. He then completed PhD in Entomology at the University of Georgia. Before joining the GMercyU faculty, Dr. Higashi was an NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Biology at Drexel University.
At GMercyU, Dr. Higashi teaches Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, Virology, and molecular biology laboratory. Dr. Higashi is broadly interested in studying host-microbe interactions, with a specific focus on heritable endosymbiotic microorganisms.
Dr. Higashi serves as a faculty mentor for the Student Association of Science and enjoys mentoring junior researchers and sharing his knowledge and experience with students at GMercyU.
