Jordan Abelson named 2021 Undergraduate Commencement Speaker

Jordan Abelson, a soon-to-be graduate from Gwynedd Mercy University's Biology and E-STEM honors programs, was selected as the Undergraduate Speaker for Commencement 2021. She could be classified as one of the most active and energetic undergraduate students on campus and will be graduating with her biology degree with minors in Chemistry and Communications in May.

During her time on campus, Jordan has served as a peer mentor since her sophomore year; sought out research opportunities, and participated in the Student Association of Science to enhance her education. She was always active in the campus community through the Take Back the Night movement, as the secretary in the Sigma Phi Sigma National Mercy Honor Society, as the chair of the new Mercy Monarch Butterfly Garden project on campus, and as the founder of the American Association of University Women on campus.

Jordan also served as GMercyU's first vlogger, assisting the Marketing and biology departments in social media. She dedicated her time as a member of the coalition for campus civic engagement committee and a member of the Griffin Student Leadership Institute. She also participated on the student/faculty diversity council, with the goal of bringing equity, diversity and inclusion to campus.

Following graduation, in addition to remaining active with GMercyU's Graduates Of The Last Decade (GOLD) young alumni group, Jordan will attend Brown University to pursue a masters degree in public health, focusing on health disparities in minorities, particularly in women's health.

Jordan has truly made the GMercyU campus community a better place and is the epitome of a Distinctive Mercy Graduate.

Congratulations to Jordan for being selected for this honor!
