Marketing Major Lauren Yancer '21 Awarded Scholarship from Honor Society

GMercyU Marketing major and student-athlete Lauren Yancer '21 - a senior who will graduate a semester early this December - was awarded a prestigious Sigma Beta Delta Student Scholarship.

Members of Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society include students in business, management, and administration. Its scholarship recognizes and honors the academic achievement of its undergraduate and graduate members, and it is awarded up to only 33 members worldwide, one per local chapter.

"It was a privilege to recommend Lauren for a scholarship as she exemplifies the core principles of Sigma Beta Delta: wisdom, honor, and aspiration, and she continuously demonstrates a commitment to the mission of our University," said Ralph Hoffman, EdD, Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of GMercyU's Marketing Program. "The scholarship she received is very competitive and is a testament to Lauren's hard work, dedication to her chosen profession, and most especially, the joy she finds in serving others."

In addition to her coursework as a marketing major, Lauren participates in GMercyU's Business Student Advisory Board and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She is also captain of the GMercyU Women's volleyball program.

She has interned with MMIT, a healthcare technology company, where she supported more than 10 product launches, gaining insight on commercial and product marketing. Her work focused on developing best practices for maximizing client feedback and competitive intelligence.

This semester, Lauren is interning for GMercyU's Marketing Department, where she is assisting with media relations, producing stories for the school website, developing content for the University's social media, and more.

"Being a recipient of this scholarship means more than anything to me," Lauren said. "I take pride in my academic success, and receiving this award is a true testament to my academic abilities, not just on a small scale, but worldwide. I'd like to thank Sigma Beta Delta for awarding this scholarship to me and for contributing to my success as a student and as a businesswoman."

"Professor Hoffman and the Marketing program at school have truly helped me get to where I am today," she added. "The program offers many unique classes, such as Consumer Behavior and Corporate Studies, that really demonstrate how marketing relates to real-world experiences. GMercyU also offers certifications that are embedded into the curriculum for students to enhance their resumes and stand out when it comes time to find a job. Professor Hoffman deeply cares about each of his students' success, and he is the person I attribute my success to. For anyone looking to be in the field of marketing, I highly recommend our program here at GMercyU."
