GMercyU Mathematic major Frank Curran ’22 was awarded the Dorothy Zeiser Endowed Award for Excellence in Mathematics this spring. This award is given by faculty to a graduating senior with outstanding achievement in mathematics.

Frank recently presented his capstone project, “Euclid’s Windmill Proof.” He demonstrated how mathematics can be used to calculate the best seat for viewing the screen at a movie theater. “What inspired my capstone project idea was my friends and I going to see movies — I always wondered where the best seat to sit is, based on multiple factors,” Frank said.

After graduation, Frank plans to become a math teacher, a career he’s wanted to pursue since the first grade.
