GMercyU Launches New Data Analytics Minor

GMercyU is excited to launch a new minor in Data Analytics beginning in fall 2024. The new minor is open to students of all majors, except those already enrolled in the Computer Information Science program. The minor includesCIS115 (Intro to Artificial Intelligence), CIS116 (Intro to Python), CIS215 (Intro Relational Databases), CIS312 (Data Analytics), CIS401 (Deep Learning), and PSY111 (Statistics).

Within the minor, students will understand data analytics through the use of the latest techniques and approaches. Specifically, Data Analytics students will learn to write code in order to manipulate data, perform statistical analyses, and create visualizations. Newly acquired knowledge and skills will be tested through the use of hands-on projects and case studies involving real-world datasets.

Students will also explore the ethical considerations and ramifications related to data collection, privacy, and security. Obtaining a minor in Data Analytics serves as a complement to a variety of majors, as it prepares students to remain competitive and relevant in the workplace.

“The new minor in Data Analytics was developed to provide students who are not enrolled in Computer Information Science (CIS) the skills necessary to compete in a data-driven world,” said Cindy Casey, PhD, Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for CIS. “Regardless of their major, proficiency in data analytics can give students a competitive advantage.”
