GMercyU Participates in Dublin Pilgrimage

A group of seven students along with two staff members traveled to Ireland as part of Gwynedd Mercy University's biannual Dublin Pilgrimage.

The 10-day trip is hosted by Mercy International Centre and invites college students from all around the world to participate. At the heart of the pilgrimage is a three-day conference where pilgrims take part in sessions exploring a variety of Mercy themes at Mercy International Centre, the original House of Mercy built by Catherine McAuley.

Prior and after the conference, which is held in Dublin July 31 through August 3, GMercyU pilgrims will travel throughout Ireland. They will learn about "The Troubles" and the ensuing Peace Process and take in the many beautiful sights, including Giants Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and Ulster American Folk Park.

Students interested in attending the Pilgrimage needed to submit an application during the fall semester and go through an interview process. The Pilgrims who were chosen are of good character and are passionate about Mercy. Through discussions, reflections and prayer, students return better equipped to be Distinctive Mercy Leaders both on campus and in their greater community.

Each trip, two faculty or staff members are chosen to accompany students and help plan pre-and-post trip meetings as well as fundraising efforts. This year's staff leaders are Associate Director of Residence Life Michelle Murray and Assistant Director of Student Activities & Leadership Programs Alexandra Jabara Johnston.
