GMercyU Cross-Country Senior Tackled by Deer, Finishes Race

Finance senior Justin DeLuzio (left) proved that all superheros don't wear capes when he finished his last collegiate cross-country race on Saturday after getting blindsided by a deer.

DeLuzio was competing in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Cross Country Championships when four deer suddenly sprinted aross the course, knocking him to the ground. DeLuzio's teammate and fellow GMercyU senior Matt French, who was also participating in his last race, stopped to help and ran alongside him the rest of the race. GMercyU freshman Armani Rivera also ran with the pair for a portion of the race.

"My last country race, his last country race and just a demonstration of camaraderie and it's what this team is all about," DeLuzio told NBC10.

The freak accident and DeLuzio's resilence has made him an overnight viral sensation, with the shocking video footage being featured on various news outlets including Huffington Post and NBC10 Philadelphia. DeLuzio is doing well except for a few bruises and is looking forward to finishing his senior year - deer free.
