Leveraging GMercyU’s strength in healthcare education and the opening of the new Frances M. Maguire ’55 Healthcare Innovation Center (HIC), the Compassionate Care Collaborative partners with healthcare systems, providers, non-profits and entrepreneurs to:

• Build the pipeline of qualified healthcare workers
• Address workforce development needs

• Improve patient outcomes through a holistic approach to patient care

• Advance the use of new technologies and tools, such as AI, to improve equity and access to quality healthcare and improve the patient experience
Three Areas of Focus
1. Academic Programs to Grow and Advance the Healthcare Provider Workforce
GMercyU is taking a broad view of new program development that:
- Expands access to existing GMercyU degrees and certificates
- Addresses emerging healthcare and workforce development needs
- Meets the growing need for telehealth, home health, behavioral health, complex care and integrated healthcare solutions, among others
- Focuses on flexibility - three-year and second-degree programs, market-centered stackable certificates and credentials, and more online, hybrid and accelerated options
2. Innovation with Heart
The new Frances M. Maguire ’55 Healthcare Innovation Center (HIC) will expand and extend the way students think about holistic patient care. The learning environment will include:
- Interprofessional learning that bring students from many majors together to address the physical, behavioral, demographic and environmental factors that impact a patient’s overall health and well-being
- State-of-the-market technology that’s used build practitioner confidence and expertise, enhance the patient experience, and improve patient outcomes
- Large indoor and outdoor, configurable spaces that support continuing education and upskilling programming.
The need for innovative solutions to complex challenges is clear, and GMercyU is uniquely positioned to respond.

3. Partnerships to Address Affordability, Employee Affinity and Pipeline Development
- Partnerships with healthcare systems and other institutions that provide funding and employment opportunities to address urgent student affordability and workforce needs.
- Partnerships that provide scholarship and/or loan repayment funding to students in exchange for work commitments
- Externship and mentoring programs that build affinity for and expertise in the culture of care within individual healthcare systems
- Dedicated Education Unit model that provides healthcare majors one-to-one clinical development with an experienced mentor at a location where the student is hoping to work post-graduation
- Shortens the time it takes for a new hire to build the skills and confidence needed to become an independent practitioner
- Improves employee satisfaction and retention
- A ‘Live Here, Work Here’ community connections program that grows the employment pipeline in rural areas, where workforce shortages often create significant challenges in providing equitable access to high quality care
