Speech-Language Pathology Minor

Explore a top-rated field of healthcare! This minor features online, asynchronous courses that run in seven-week sessions.
The SLP minor also prepares you to meet the admissions curriculum criteria for GMercyU's Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MSSLP) program and other MSSLP programs with similar requirements.* 

Earn a minor in Speech-Language Pathology by:

  • Completing the seven three-credit required courses (total 21 credits)
  • Earning a minimum grade of a C for each course; C- grades are not acceptable

Curriculum

Each class is offered once a year in seven-week sessions that follow GMercyU's online/accelerated schedule: 

SLP 400: Phonetics
SLP 410: Language Development
SLP 420: Anatomy & Physiology of Speech, Language, & Swallowing 
SLP 440: Introduction to Communication Disorders
SLP 430: Introduction to Audiology & Aural Rehabilitation
SLP 450: Speech & Hearing Science
SLP 460: Clinical Observation & Techniques

*Please note: As part of the certification process, the American Speech-Language Hearing Association requires that all applicants for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) complete basic academic coursework in the following four areas:

  • biological sciences
  • physics or chemistry
  • social/behavioral sciences (e.g., psychology, sociology, anthropology)
  • statistics
