The Special Education Club is an organization at GMercyU dedicated to spreading awareness and acceptance of individuals with special needs.
As a member, you will help raise funds and host the annual Alex Valeno Exceptional Persons 5k Walk/Run on campus. Alex Valeno was an active member and co-president of The Special Education Club until January 2013 when she passed away suddenly due to congenital heart disease.
You will also promote understanding, education and best practices to the GMercyU community and future educators by hosting and attending Professional Development events both on and off campus.
The club is also a local chapter of Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and talents.
The Seventh Annual Alex Valeno Exceptional Person’s 5K Walk/Run will be held at GMercyU on Sunday, April 7, 2019. The funds raised from the Walk/Run will be used to support charities such as Special People in the Northeast (SPIN) and The Autism Institute of Gwynedd Mercy University.
We're dedicated to reaching the goal of $10,000 for the 2018-2019 academic year.
