Current Accounting CPA Track and Finance Student
Julia Smith graduated from Williamstown High School in New Jersey in 2018. She first heard about GMercyU after Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Shannon algeo reached out after a summer lacrosse tournament to recruit her for the team.
"I cam to GMercyU because I really enjoyed the atmosphere; I was able to continue my athletic career while also receiving my degree and far away enough from home where I could genuinely enjoy the university experience while being close enough to go home if necessary," Julia said.
Julia was a double major in Finance and on the Accounting CPA Track. She described the program as "challenging," due to the number of classes required. In order to stay on track for graduation, Julia completed six classes per semester and four summer classes to complete the necessary 155 credits.
"My favorite part of GMercyU was the small classroom size because I built relationships with my profesors," Julia said.
On campus, Julia was an involved student. Aside from being a member of the Women's Lacrosse Team during her four years, she also served as the team's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative. She served as the Chair of Student-Athletes for The Hidden Opponent, an advocacy group to erase the stigma and raise awareness of student-athlete mental health. During her senior year, she was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Student-Athlete Honor Society.
Outside of athletics, Julia was a member of Black Student Union, Student Government Association (SGA), and Student Activities Committee.
Starting in October 2022, Julia will be working as an Auditor at Kreischer Miller, an accounting firm in Horsham, Pa.
