Griffins Win One for Jaylen and JP
On Saturday February 6, 2016 Gwynedd Mercy University men’s basketball team played in a CSAC showdown against Rosemont College. This was a game that the GMercyU community will always remember. Not because of the amazing show the Griffins put on but this game was dedicated to Head Coach John Baron and his ex-wife who his battling Stage IV Pancreatic cancer. All CSAC teams that held games on Saturday participated in a fundraiser for the Baron children, Jaylen and J.P., which will benfit their college fund.
Many students, faculty and alumni came out support the Baron Family. It was an amazing sight to see all those beautiful faces come out to support something that is so meaningful to the GMercyU community. It was a touching site for Jane and the rest of the Baron family to see how much they mean to everyone and to know that their family is our family.
The Griffins started off the first half with a rusty start but they overcame the Rosemont Ravens defense ending the first half with a 39-37 lead. The second half was much different. The Griffins came out attacking showing how triumph they can be. The Griffins defeated the Ravens with a final score of 98-80. Some key performers on the Griffins was Forward Cedrick Elleby with a double-double, scoring 28 points with 14 rebounds. Julian Hyden had 13 points and Rip Engel added 10 to the victory over Rosemont. Next stop, Summit University on Wednesday, February 10.
