GMercyU Education Students Spend Time at St. Malachy's School
Students from Gwynedd Mercy University's School of Education spent the day at St. Malachy's School in Philadelphia on October 26, 2016. The Griffins shared art activities and team-building exercises with pre-k through 8th grade students at St. Malachy's. The event was organized by GMAEYC and GMercyU's Special Education Club.
This outing is part of a a 30-year connection between GMercyU's School of Education and St. Malachy's School. GMercyU club officers plan developmentally appropriate activities and students in the School of Education gain hands-on experience by teaching the planned activities. St. Malachy's is located in North Philadelphia and is rooted in the Catholic tradition.
GMAEYC is the Gwynedd Mercy Association for Education of Young Children. The organization is an advocate for early childhood edcuation and is part of the Delaware Valley Association for Education of Young Children. GMAEYC promotes best practices and educates students about current trends and events.
GMercyU's Special Education Club is dedicated to spreading awareness and acceptance of individuals with special needs. The club is also a local chapter of Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and talents.
