GMercyU 2016 Commencement Speaker Father John Collins

Longtime Campus Chaplain and friend of Gwynedd Mercy University will address the crowd of Distinctive Mercy Graduates at GMercyU's 67th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14, 2016.

Father John Collins, CSsR served the GMercyU Community as Chaplain and campus minister for nearly 15 years from 2001 until 2015. During his time at the University, Father John was an essential member of Campus Ministry-led workships, was involved with student retreats and service projects and provided spiritual direction to those who sought it. Father John was a staple not only on GMercyU's campus but in the local community as well. He held weekly Sunday Mass during the academic year where his thoughtful homilies, melodic voice and exuberance were hallmarks of his liturgies.

In 2013-2014, Father John took a sabbatical year where he visited the birthplace of the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland and traveled to Chulucanas, Peru as part of a University "Mini Grant." In Peru, Father John explored ways to expand the partnership between GMercyU and the Peruvian Mercy ministries to not only make a difference in Peru, but to help develop a global awareness for GMercyU stduents.

Father John embarked on a new chapter last summer when he began serving on the Retreat Staff of his community's San Alfonso Retreat House in Long Branch, NJ.
