Each year, one graduate is presented with the Catherine McAuley Award. The mission of Catherine McAuley, Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, was to dedicate her life to service. She held the personal belief that "one person can make a difference." The individual presented with this award is dedicated in service, to Christian values, and generosity.
This year's Catherine McAuley Award recipient, Mary Claire Leva, embodies all of these qualities. During her time at GMercyU, Mary Claire served as a Peer Tutor and as a Student Leader on the Campus Coalition for Civic Engagement, which serves to motivate student activism and civic engagement on and off campus. She was also a member of the Philosophy Society, which promotes intellectual, philosophical discourse on camps, and of the University's chapter of the American Association of University Women. Mary Claire also participated in the first cohort of the Weaving Equity into Leadership program that promotes anti-racism, and completed the Griffin Student Leadership Institute of Exceptional Leaders program.
Mary Claire will be graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
