Respiratory Care Program Holds Day of Service

Day of ServiceSophomore and junior students in GMercyU’s Respiratory Care Program participated in a day of service at the Mitzvah Circle in Norristown, Pa. on Tuesday, April 18 with Professor Melissa Thornborough.

Students work to improve the health of their patients in hospital settings, but are also aware of the non-medical factors that influence health outcomes. The Day of Service enabled students to spend time outside of a hospital setting to recognize the social needs of people within the community.

Students worked with staff and volunteers as the Mitzvah Circle to “shop” for clothes, shoes, toys, and other necessities in their warehouse. Once the items were gathered, they were packaged with a handwritten note from students, and Mitzvah Circle volunteers delivered them directly to families in the community.

About Mitzvah Circle

Mitzvah Circle is designed to fill the gaps in society by providing items not covered by government assistance. Clothing, toothpaste, diapers, and deodorant are daily necessities that not all can afford. Mitzvah Circle is dedicated to creating a world where kids and parents don’t feel less valued because they lack basic necessities, but rather a world where every person matters.
