Gwynedd Mercy University Names New Vice President for Finance and Administration

Gwynedd Mercy University has named James E. Trusdell, MBA as its next Vice President for Finance and Administration. He will succeed Kevin O'Flaherty, MBA who plans to retire on February 29 after serving as the University's VP for Finance and Administration for the past 16 years. Trusdell will assume his new role on March 1.

Trusdell brings a unique blend of financial, administrative and operational experience to the position. Over the course of his career, he has helped build strong financial organizations with a focus on driving new growth strategies and developing sound cost control processes. He will lead one of GMercyU's largest units, with direct responsibility for the University's financial operations, as well as other key University functions such as facilities management, information technology, human resources, and campus safety.

Trusdell comes to GMercyU from Georgian Court University, where he holds a similar position. Prior to his time at GCU, Trusdell served as VPFA and CFO at Holy Family University where he led a financial turnaround that resulted in four years of increased revenues and improved cash management. He also has held multiple director- and executive-level roles in finance at Temple University, and spent more than 15 years in the business world as a controller and assistant vice president.

"We are thrilled to have such an experienced and innovative leader join our Gwynedd Mercy University team," said University President Deanne D'Emilio, JD. "Jim will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the university as we pursue the many exciting initiatives outlined in the University's Strategic Plan, including the development of our new 154-acre East Campus."

Trusdell's experience, especially the success he has had at two other small, private Catholic universities, aligns extremely well with the needs of Gwynedd Mercy University.

"I can't imagine a more exciting time to join the Gwynedd Mercy University team. Gwynedd Mercy University's deep commitment to living its Mercy mission and preparing students to become ethical leaders in their careers and communities, along with its clear focus on achieving the goals set out in the University's Strategic Plan, made this a unique opportunity," said Trusdell. "I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees, leadership team and campus community on further enhancing the University's rich heritage and reputation for innovative, mission-centered leadership in higher education."

Trusdell earned his Master of Business Administration in Finance from Saint Joseph's University, and his bachelor's degree in Accounting from Philadelphia University.
