GMercyU Announces Partnership in Nation's First Apprenticeship for Public School Teachers

Gwynedd Mercy University is partnering with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on a first-of-its-kind apprenticeship for public school teachers in the Norristown Area School District.

The Apprenticeship to Mastery Program for Public School Teachers (AMP) will be a two-year non-traditional apprenticeship program for K-12 public school teachers in the Norristown Area School District and is a part of Governor Tom Wolf's PAsmart initiative that was launched last year.

The program is sponsored by Choice Careers LLC and will provide on-the-job training, rotations at local businesses, and related technical instruction. Teachers in the Norristown Area School District will have the opportunity to take courses towards a Master of Science in Education through GMercyU's School of Graduate and Professional Studies. Participants in the program will also have access to online training from Educational Impact and workshops from Choice Careers LLC.

"We are thrilled to be selected as the educational partner for the Registered 'Apprenticeship to Mastery Program for Public School Teachers' (AMP) and help bring this innovative professional development initiative to life," said Gwynedd Mercy University President, Deanne H. D'Emilio, JD. "Not only will this program further prepare the future educators of tomorrow, but it will also enable and encourage teachers to have more impactful effects on their students."
