Accelerated Nursing Students Travel to Dominican Republic

Students in Gwynedd Mercy University's Accelerated in Bachelor of Science in Nursing program traveled to the Dominican Republic over fall break to provide medical services to impoverished towns.

During the five-day trip to La Romona, students and faculty provided care to residents, most of whom have limited access to medical care. Although this marked GMercyU's first trip to the Dominican Republic during fall break, the University has a decade-plus relationship with La Romona.

Since 2006, undergraduate students in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions have participated in the International Nursing Mission Trip over the University's spring break. The annual mission trip began with just two students and has now grown to more than 30.

In addition, graduate Nursing students travel to Peru during spring break to provide aid to people who have limited or no access to care. As graduate students, they have the knowledge and experience to problem solve and be resourceful with what they have, doing everything from relieving headaches to repairing a colostomy gone wrong.
