GMercyU Students Participate in Immigration Rally

Gwynedd Mercy University Title IX Coordinator Robert Wood organized a group of Gwynedd Mercy University students and alumni to attend a Families Belong Together Rally in Doylestown, PA on Saturday, June 30. The rally was a part of a nationwide movement to bring attention to current immigration issues. Sisters of Mercy were represented at many of the events by the Sister of Mercy Social Justice Advocacy team, all carrying the same signs to show unity within the groups.

"It was amazing to see how many people saw the signs we were holding and came up to us. It showed me how big the circle of mercy is," GMercyU sophomore Jordie Abelson said. "It makes me so proud to be a part of a University that teaches not only their critical concerns but also has faculty and staff encouraging students to be active."

The critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy are deeply rooted in GMercyU's mission. The importance of earth, immigration, nonviolence, anti-racism, and women are taught to students starting with the First Year Experience course all the way through the signature seminar and capstone courses.
