GMercyU Unveils New Occupational Therapy Space

Gwynedd Mercy University unveiled the new space where its recently launched Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy programs will be housed with a blessing on Monday, May 14.

The wing, located in Siena Hall, was transformed into lab and classroom spaces equipped with the latest technology and tools, including bathroom and kitchen spaces for students to gain hands-on experiences with patients.

GMercyU introduced these new programs to meet the growing industry needs. GMercyU started its Bachelor of Health Science (BHS) in Occupational Science program this past fall, which can serve as a dual-degree program and give qualified students a way to earn both a BHS and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) without having to apply to graduate school or take a graduate school entrance exam.

In December 2017, the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) officially granted GMercyU permission to start its MSOT program in May 2018. The MSOT program is 2 1/4 year program and if combined with GMercyU's BHS program, a student can earn both their undergraduate and graduate degree in about five years. Due to the unique structure and competitiveness of the programs, GMercyU is accepting only a limited number of students each year.
