GMercyU Ranks Among Top Schools in the Nation

Gwynedd Mercy University is considered one of the top 500 schools in the nation, according to rankings released by The Wall Street Journal and Times Higher Education. The ranking is based on the things that matter most to students and families, including outcomes and financial considerations.

The rankings included more than 1,000 colleges and universities and a survey of 100,000 current college students across the country. GMercyU was ranked 453rd, one of only 42 Pennsylvania institutions that made the list.

The rankings put a big emphasis on outcomes, an area in which GMercyU excels. In fact, Gwynedd Mercy University is in the top 25 percent nationwide for 20-year net return on investment, according to 2017 PayScale data, proving that GMercyU students can make a living while living the Mercy mission.

"At GMercyU, we appreciate the intrinsic value of an excellent college education grounded in the liberal arts, and we also understand the importance of preparing Distinctive Mercy Graduates who go on to have successful careers while embracing our Mercy values. In fact, we like to say that our Mercy values are the antidote to the discrimination and lack of civility and caring that have become all too common in society," said President Deanne D'Emilio, JD.

The student surveys included questions about students' engagement with their studies, their interactions with professors, and their overall satisfaction with their university experience.

The rankings included performance indicators that answered the following questions:

  • Does the college have sufficient resources to teach me properly?
  • Will I be engaged, and challenged, by my teacher and classmates?
  • Does the college have a good academic reputation?
  • What type of campus community is there?
  • How likely am I to graduate, pay off my loans and get a good job?

This is one of a series of recent accolades for GMercyU: This summer, the Gwynedd Mercy University Accounting program ranked 14th in the nation among very small schools for CPA exam pass rates.
