The Trouble with My Name tells the story of a Puerto Rican teacher moving from the island to the continental U.S. It includes pictures, poems, music, autobiographical narrative, family memorabilia, and historical accounts in order to, in a comedic style, debate the ethnic and cultural stereotypes about Hispanics and/or Latinos in America today.

CURED illuminates a pivotal yet largely unknown chapter in the struggle for LGBTQ equality: the campaign that led the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to remove homosexuality from its manual of mental illnesses. Before this momentous 1973 decision, the medical establishment viewed every gay and lesbian person as diseased and in need of a cure.

Two Spirit Conversation

In more recent years, the Two-Spirit identity has been added to the LGBTQ+ acronym. According to the National Congress of American Indians, the definition of the Two-Spirit identity is “a contemporary umbrella term that refers to the historical and current First Nations people whose individual spirits were a blend of female and male spirits.” The term has been reclaimed by Native American LGBTQ+ communities.
