Thomas Umile, PhD
Thomas P. Umile, PhD, is an assistant professor of chemistry. He joined the Gwynedd Mercy University faculty in 2014. He received his BS in biochemistry and MA in chemistry from The University of Scranton and his PhD in chemistry from Princeton University. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Villanova University, where he taught courses in organic chemistry and conducted research with undergraduate and master's students.
At GMercyU, Dr. Umile teaches Organic Chemistry and Chemistry for the Health Professions and mentors student research. His academic interests include natural products isolation, chemical ecology, green chemistry and sustainability, and food science. Research in the Umile lab currently focuses on identifying bioactive organic molecules produced by bacteria and fungi.
