MaryJo Pierantozzi, MS
Mary Jo Pierantozzi, MS, is an assistant professor of education, teaching Science for Teachers, Social Studies for Teachers, Technology Integration for Teachers, Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Classroom Management, as well as working with the Gwynedd Mercy University Science Teachers’ Association. She began teaching at GMercyU as an adjunct professor in 1996, becoming a full-time assistant professor in 2002. Pierantozzi earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from GMercyU, her master’s degree in education from Marywood College and is currently working on her doctorate in educational technology from Walden University. She holds Pennsylvania certifications in Elementary Education (grades K-8), English (grades 7-12), Elementary Principal (grades K-8) and Secondary Principal (grades 9-12). Pierantozzi has more than 42 years of professional experience as a teacher (grades 4-8), elementary principal (grades K-8), coordinator of professional development, regional agent for the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools, and as a consultant for Sadlier-Oxford Publishing Company.
She is also a member of many professional organizations including Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappa which are International Education Honor Societies. She is the recipient of PDK’s Gerald Read International Travel Scholarship and was a member of the first PDK delegation to China in 2009. Her blog of this experience is published on the PDK website and she, along with two other educators from China, was a presenter on the PDK webinar Extending Your Impact: Education in China. Pierantozzi is an Associate in Mercy and an honorary member of Sigma Phi Sigma, the National Mercy Honor Society. She has presented nationally on many topics in education including math, social studies, hybrid online courses, and cooperative learning. Her latest publication, Beyond the Classroom Walls: Creating Virtual Field Trips was published in the February 2008 Journal on School Educational Technology. Her areas of expertise are social studies, multiple intelligences, cooperative learning, technology, math and science, and middle school and elementary instructional strategies.
