Welcome to Gwynedd Mercy University!

New Student Orientation: Thursday, August 21, 2014 to Sunday, August 24, 2014 (Register Below)

A Message from your 2014 Orientation Planning Team (OPT)...

Shannon Carty-

Pulling up to campus three years ago in August of 2011, I was feeling many emotions: fear, excitement, and anticipation for what was coming next. My orientation leaders drew me in with their fun spirits and welcoming personalities. They helped me get passed my fears and to jump into college life with my best foot forward. The transition to college was a challenge for sure, but it has also been the best time of my life. I am so thankful for the people I have in my life now because of the choice I made to come to Gwynedd Mercy University. I feel so lucky that I get to be a part of this experience again with the Class of 2018. If I had any advice to give, it would be to branch out, be yourself, and most importantly have fun! We have a lot of great events and activities for all of the new students, so take advantage! I can't wait to meet you all!!!  #GRIFFINNATION2014

Ashlyn Emery-

The moment I stepped onto campus, I knew that this is where I belonged. I could just feel that this is where I was meant to be. I knew Gwynedd Mercy University was going to be my home away from home and I couldn't wait to start my future here. When I arrived for Orientation, I discovered that the community and the program was everything I had hoped for and more. I hope that I can be as resourceful and welcoming as my Orientation Leaders were to me and the rest of the new students. Class of 2018, I hope that you can also feel the same belonging-ness that I felt coming onto this campus. I can assure you that Orientation will be an experience that you will never forget and it will help build important relationships that will last a lifetime. I can't wait to be apart of this new journey with every single one of you! #GRIFFINNATION2014

Meghan Pfizenmayor-

First off, congratulations on your acceptance and commitment to Gwynedd Mercy Univeristy. If your next few years spent here are anything like mine, you will be extremely prepared for the future and beyond pleased with your decision to attend this school. I came to Gwynedd for the education program and its small campus size that opposed my high school's. I fell in love with the atmosphere and the people that filled it with their hospitality and generosity. My advice to you is to get to know everyone from the security guards to the dining hall staff and everyone in between. They are here to help you be successful at this school. Another piece of advice, go to every event possible at Orientation! It's like a mini vacation before school begins and, I promise, you will meet so many new and exciting people. I cannot wait to meet you and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. See you in August! #GRIFFINNATION2014

Students - excited to see what the city and surrounding areas have to offer? Sign up for one of our Saturday excursions – or stay on campus and explore for the day with entertainment to follow that evening. Transportation to and from campus is included. Orientation Leaders and beloved faculty/staff will be taking these trips as well!

Sign up today and we will take care of the rest. For Saturday, August 23rd, choose from:

1. Dorney Park/Wildwater Kingdom: Two Great Parks in one location! Cool down you’re your new classmates during the day at Wildwater Kingdom or test your limits in Dorney Park on one of the roller coasters or thrill rides.  This is a day trip!!

2. Eastern State Penitentiary: Once the most famous prison in the world, Eastern State Penitentiary now houses a lot of history, architecture and even rumored hauntings. This was the world’s first true “penitentiary,” a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of convicts. Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America’s most notorious criminals, including bank robber “Slick Willie” Sutton and Al Capone

3. Philadelphia Phillies vs. St. Louis Cardinals: Whether it is your first Phillies game or if you are a seasoned fan, come cheer for America’s favorite pastime in one of Philadelphia’s greatest landmarks – Citizen’s Bank Park. Game time is 7pm.

**in order to secure a spot on one of our off campus excursions, a $10 reservation fee must be received. Checks can be addressed to Gwynedd Mercy University with your choice excursion in the memo line. Checks should be sent to Marissa Bowlby.**

Faculty and Staff @ Orientation

Faculty and Staff participation is key to a successful orientation program!

There are two opportunities for faculty and staff to meet and interact with our new students. First, participate in our Service Day during the morning of Friday, August 22nd. Small groups will be on campus and off, working with the community.  If you are interested in serving as a site leader and participant, please contact Christine Eberle in Campus Ministry.

Faculty and Staff are also welcomed to help with our off-campus excursions on Saturday, August 23rd. New students and Orientation Leaders will be taking a day trip to Dorney Park/Wildwater Kingdom, a day trip to Eastern State Penitentiary, or will spend an evening at Citizen’s Bank Park watching the Phillies take on the Diamondbacks. Thank you for your interest and stay tuned for available opportunities to meet and greet our new students!
